Where the Wild Things Are: Movie review

Posted by Brit Windel on October 17, 2009

ok so i went to see Where the Wild things are last night… can i say i was very pleased!

to take a 14 page book and turn it into a movie…very good. had some great touching parts and brought some great life to the book. the visuals were amazing. now… it does have some down sides. it is kinda slow in some parts. there isn’t much dialog which can make for awkward moments of silence. I would not recommend this for children.

Why? well because there just seemed to be a lot of moments of just blandness and not really engaging!I know how can I say i liked it but then say that. The movie is great for people who have read the book as children, but i don’t think most kids now (8 and under) would enjoy the movie as their parents might.

another piece is the amount of walk aways that could have taken place with, being yourself, being creative, being forgiving, loving and so on… it really didn’t do a great job portraying that and giving the audience time for reflection.

so i would rate it on a 10 scale about a 6.5-7! i really enjoyed it and would possibly go see it again, but the reason it was so high was because of the joy i had from the book as a child and the beautiful cinematography

I too went to see it last night and thought it was weird. Very scary for children, very awkward at parts but other than that it depicted the book very well. Like you said, great movie for adults, but not so much for children.
